Even though this ballet has the name of a novel by Cervantes,
it refers only to one chapter of the book, the wedding of Kitri’s
Basilio.
Don Quixote and his servant Santso-Pancha
help the two youngsters to get Kitri’s father’s consent for
their wedding. However, until this happens many beautiful and
different dances take place. The arrival of the bullfighters,
the gypsy dances in the forest and the eminent dream of Don
Quixote who dances with the Dryads and their Queen.
It is another ballet choreographed by M. Petipa,
which shows clearly his impressions from his travels to Spain.
It was performed in 1871 in St Petersburg, music by L.Minkus.
