The fisherman Gernaro’s bride, Teresina,
is swept overboard in a storm. She is saved by the sea sprite
Golfo, who takes her to his blue grotto on
the island of Capri. Gernaro
finds her there at last , and in the third act they celebrate
their wedding with a divertissement, finishing with a lively
Tarantella.
The most popular of all Bournoville ballets.
Usually only the third act is now performed but the complete
ballet is still in the repertory of the Royal Danish
Ballet. Napoli is a year younger than
Giselle, but unlike Giselle, Napoli has not
been changed by succeeding generations of choreographers
The Thessalian Ballet was performed pieces
of the third act of this ballet in Larissa
(28-11-2002) and in Veria (30-11-2002).
