It is a ballet that has not been accurately preserved as it
was first performed in 1846 in Paris, to music by E.
Deldevez and choreographed by Mazilier.
This role was first danced by C.Crisi.
The "Pas de Trois" and the "Grand
pas de deux" (that were choreographed by
M. Petipa, and music by L.Minkus)
are the only pieces that have been saved in 1881 in St Petersburg.
The choreography with the many variations gives the possibility
to many dancers to demonstrate their perfect technique.
The story of the ballet refers to a Spanish gypsy that saves
the life of a French officer, who falls in love with her,
but they have to overcome many obstacles until it is finally
revealed that she is really of noble birth, and they are joined
with the bonds of marriage.
